Through our local and national partnerships, we can reach underserved children; and are continually looking to form partnerships that advance our goals of preserving Compton history, give back to the community, and inspiring the next generation. We host various events, contests and always looking to partner up with brands. Below is a list of awards, events we hosted or partnered with.
Super Bowl LVI Press Conference
Founder & CEO Bobby Jones was honored by Roger Goodell and the NFL for his work in the community. He was surprised with free tickets to Super Bowl LVI.
Drive-Thru Food Giveaway
G.U.C. partnered with nonprofit organization Compton Youth Build for a free food give away. 200 cars were given dry goods, hand sanitizer, face masks, etc.
I WANT TO TRAVEL THE WORLD | VIDEO CONTEST
Students at Dominguez High made a 2-minute video explaining what country they wanted to visit and the importance of getting out of your comfort zone. 3 winners were announced and given gifts apparel from: Ethika, Fabletics, Compton Magic, Compton Art Walk, and a new Dell laptop from 4Wrd Progress.
COMPTON STORYTELLING 101: LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Founder & CEO, Bobby Jones taught a 2-month course to high schoolers at Compton YouthBuild.
He created a curriculum centered around the history of Compton, gaining leadership skills, financial literacy, video production, the various forms of storytelling and learning the importance of documenting/owning your history.
The course featured guest speakers and a field trip to the Compton Community Garden.
THE NFL/YET: 30 YEAR REUNION
The NFL Youth Education Town (YET) was a charter school and after school program started in Compton. A lucky seventy-five 6th graders were chosen and stayed together until they graduated from 8th grade. Famous guest speakers, amazing field trips, and they even had a Super Bowl commercial. The NFL/YET closed its doors over 20 years ago, G.U.C. hosted a reunion and will be featured in a documentary titled, “Growing Up Compton: The NFL/YET”. The project will be a 30-year case study to show the long-term implications the YET had in the lives of those kids who are now adults. We are still looking for investors to assist with funding for the project.
I'm Built Different: Yoga/Basketball Camp
G.U.C. will be hosting its 1st annual yoga/basketball camp at Memorial Park in Santa Monica. The camp will be brining young people from Santa Monica, Watts, Compton and Kumeyaay Ipai Native American Youth from the San Pasqual Indian Reservation.
Growing Up Compton: Essay Contest
Seniors from Dominguez High and Lifeline charter school will write a 1-page narrative essay explaining what "Growing Up Compton" means to them.G.U.C. will be partnering with Homme + Femme as they will be gifting the winners with apparel and a free photo shoot.
